Eligibility
- Issued to a person who is traveling through China to another destination
Requirements for US Citizens
- US valid/signed passport in good condition (must not expire in less than six months) with at least one blank visa pages (Note: pages 22, 23, 24 are NOT visa pages)
- One visa application form signed, completely filled out informing purpose of the trip
- One recent 2in X 2in passport type photo
- Visa of the country of destination
- Copy of the ticket to final destination
- Applicant whom was born in China and now holds another foreign passport, is required to submit their Chinese passport with a Chinese visa
- Fee for Transit Visa

****Both kinds of visas are good within 90 days of issue and duration of stay is for
7 (seven) days. Consular General has the right to revoke, refuse or change issue of visa.A visa is required, if a U.S. citizen is flying through one of the airports, and is staying within its complex, for less than 24 hours. Visas are not required for a U.S. citizen if they are to transit through Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport of Shanghai. Citizens of the following countries also do not require a visa if traveling through these airports: Korea, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria and Greece.
The only requirements are, that they hold a valid passport, correct visas for their following destinations, have an itinerary with their finial destinations and booked seats, and finally will remain in Shanghai for less than 48 hours. No visa is required if citizens of Singapore, Brunei and Japan are to visit China and are staying for less then 15 days, for the purpose of business, tourism, visiting friends or family and or transit.
